Narjis Nusaibah (she/her)
Hi! Thank you so much for being curious about how to help women. My name is Narjis, and I started Alo Health with that very same curiosity! As someone deeply passionate about health equity and women’s rights, this is the perfect space for me to work in, and I feel incredibly grateful to be able to do so.
Alo Health had been in the works for a year before I officially launched it. I explored many different ways to start and had countless conversations with incredibly kind mentors, industry experts, and friends—who somehow never got tired of hearing yet another tiny tweak I thought might improve things. I wanted to do this right. After what felt like a million drafts and operational plans, I finally arrived at a version that felt “good enough” to begin. A modest grant from Projects for Peace enabled me to finally get it off the ground.
I’ve put careful thought into every aspect of this organization. I’m proud of the incredible team we’ve assembled, and we are committed to ensuring that our interventions are well-intentioned, truly practical, and meaningful for the women we serve.
This is at the heart of my vision: awareness alone, while important, is not enough. It’s vital for me to do the kind of work that addresses the practical aspects of women’s health, which includes taking action that genuinely helps (i.e, paying for an ultrasound), rather than just telling them what they should do and hoping it makes a difference. (i.e, you should get an ultrasound if you feel a mass). Both help, but only one truly makes a difference. The women in my country face immense financial and systemic barriers, and it would be unjust to expect them to carry the weight to better a healthcare system. My interventions are designed to meet them where they are, and respond to their unique needs and realities.
This organization is incredibly dear to me. I will do everything I can to ensure it operates at the highest possible standards, because the women in my country deserve nothing less. I will always be part of this journey, and I am committed to listening and learning from anyone who has ideas, feedback, collaboration proposals, or even just wants to chat. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
P.S. I’m also a college student! I’m a senior majoring in Chemistry and Economics at Carleton College, MN.
